Journey Of Andhra And Telangana 

   

September 17, 1948:

The region, nowbeing called Telangana, was part of the erstwhile Hyderabad statewhich was merged into the Indian Union on September 17, 1948.

September 17th 1948 :

Indian Army annexesPrincely State of Hyderabad ,which comprised different regions including Telangana..

26 January 1950 :- Central government appointed a civil servant, M K Vellodi, as the first Chief Ministerof Hyderabad state on 26 January 1950.

In 1952, BurgulaRamakrishna Rao was elected Chief Minister of Hyderabadstate in the first democratic election

November 1, 1953:

Andhra was the first state to be carved out (from erstwhile Madras state) on linguistic basis on. It had Kurnool town (in Rayalaseema region) as its capital after the death of Potti Sriramulu who sat on a 53-day fast-unto-death demanding the new state.

1953:

The proposal foramalgamation of Hyderabad state with Andhra state came up in 1953 and the then Chief Minister of Hyderabad state, Burgula Ramakrishna Rao,supported the Congress central leadership's decision in this regardthough there was opposition in Telangana region.

1955:

Accepting the merger proposal, Andhra assembly passed a resolution on November 25, 1955 promising to safeguard the interests of Telangana.

1956 Feb:

An agreement wasreached between Telangana leaders and Andhra leaders on February 20,1956 to merge Telangana and Andhra with promises to safeguard Telangana's interests.

A 'Gentlemen'sAgreement' was then signed by Bezawada Gopala Reddy and Burgula Ramakrishna Rao to the effect.

Eventually, under the States Re-organisation Act,(1st S R C) Telugu-speaking areas of Hyderabad state were merged with Andhra state, giving birth to the state of Andhra Pradesh on November 1, 1956.

1956 November 1 :

Telangana mergedwith Andhra Pradesh state, a united state of TeluguSpeaking People...

In 1969:

An agitation beganin Telangana region as people protested the failure to implement theGentlemen's Agreement and other safeguardsproperly.Over 300 people killed in Police firing..

Marri ChannaReddy launched the Telangana Praja Samitiespousing the cause of a separate state.

1969:

Following severalrounds of talks with leaders of the two regions, the then PrimeMinister Indira Gandhi came up with an eight-point planon April 12, 1969.

Telangana leadersrejected the plan and protests continued under the aegis of TelanganaPraja Samiti.

1972:

'Jai Andhramovement ' begans in Coastal Andhra for Separate Andhrastate..

On September 21,1973 :

A politicalsettlement was reached with the Centre and a 6-point formula put inplace to placate people of the two regions.

1975:

Presidential orderissued to implement Six ponit formula ,providing some safeguards toTelangana..

1985:

The then TeluguDesam Party government, headed by N T Rama Rao, broughtout a Government Order to safeguard the interests of Telangana peoplein government employment.

Till 1999, there was no demand from any quarters for division of the state on regional lines. * In 1999, Congress demanded creation of Telangana state. Congress was then smarting under crushing defeats in successive elections to the state Assembly and Parliament with the ruling Telugu Desam Party in an unassailable position

27^th April 2001:

Yet another chapteropened in the struggle for Telangana when KalvakuntlaChandrasekhar Rao(KCR), who was seething overdenial of Cabinet berth in the Chandrababu Naidu government, walkedout of TDP and launched Telangana Rashtra Samiti on 27 April,2001.

Following pressureapplied by Telangana Congress leaders, the Central Working Committeeof Congress in 2001 sent a resolution to the then NDA governmentseeking constitution of a second States Re-organisationCommission to look into Telangana state demand, which wasrejected by the then Union Home Minister L K Advani saying smallerstates were “neither viable nor conducive” to integrity of thecountry.

2004:

Congress forged anelectoral alliance with TRS by promising to create Telangana state.Congress came to power in 2004, both in the state and at the Centre,and TRS became part of the coalition governments at both places.

October 2008:

TDP changed itsstance and declared support for bifurcation of the state.

November 29th 2009 :

TRS launched anindefinite hunger-strike demanding creation of Telangana.

9thDecember 2009:

The Centre budgedand came out with an announcement on 9 December, 2009 that it was“initiating the process for formation of Telangana state”.

10 th December 2009 :

Following protestsin Rayalaseema and Coastal andhra (Seema andhra) and en massresignation of M P and MLAs. Center puts the process on hold citingneed for consensus..

23^rd December 2009 :

But the Centreannounced on 23 December, 2009 that it was putting Telangana issue onhold. This fanned protests across Telangana with some students endingtheir lives for a separate state.

3rd February 2010 :

The Centre thenconstituted a five-member Committee on 3 February, 2010, headed byformer judge Srikrishna, to look into statehood demand. The Committeesubmitted its report to the Centre on 30 December, 2010.

Telagana regionwitnessed a series of agitations like the Million March, ChaloAssembly and Sakalajanula Samme (general strike) in 2011-12 whileMLAs belonging to different parties quit from the House. With its MPsfrom Telangana upping the ante, Congress made Union Home Ministry toconvene an all-party meeting on December 28, 2012 to find an“amicable solution” to the crisis

Union cabinet approves the Proposal to divide Andhra pradesh.. A Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted to prepare the road map afterconsultations with all stakeholders..

5thDecember 2013:

Union cabinetapproves the draft Andhrapradesh Reorganisation Bill -2013 preparedon the basis of recommendations by GoM . Bill sent to PresidentPranab Mukhergee with a request to make reference to Andhrapradesh legislature to obtain its views under Article 3 of the Constitution..

9thDecember 2013 :

The President givestime till 23rd January 2014 to state legislature to giveits views..

16thDecember 2013:

Bill Introduced in both houses of state legislature amid clashes between Seemandhra AndTelangana lawmakers.

27thJanuary 2014 :

Chief minister of Andhra pradesh Sri Nallari Kiran kumar reddy gave notice to

assemblyspeaker for a resolutions to reject the bill..

30 th January 2014 :

Amid ruckus ,bothhouses of state legislature pass by voice vote official 

7thFebruary 2014:

Union Cabinet clearsthe bill and rejects Seemandhra leaders demend to make Hyderabad aunion territory. Bill sent to the President for his approval to table it in Parliament.

ElectionCommission of IndiaAnnounced 16th Lokshbha polling schedule.

Voting was scheduledto be held in Nine phases from 7 April to 12 May, and the results ofthe election was announced on 16 May. Simultaneous elections wereheld for the Vidhan Sabhas of Andhra Pradesh, ArunachalPradesh, Odisha and Sikkim.

31st May2014:

15thLoksabha expired.

30th April 2014:

Conducted pollingfor 17 Lok Sabha and 119 Assembly segments in 10 districts of“Telangana”.(7th phase)

For both assemblyand Lok Sabha elections, Andhra Pradesh is going to polls as onestate, for the last time. Since the Central Government has fixed June2 as the appointed date for the state of Telangana, officially theundivided state of Andhra Pradesh remain on the papers till thatdate.

7th May2014:

16th May2014 :

Andhra Pradesh TheTDP-BJP alliance has won 106 of the 175 Assembly seats in Seemandhra,MP Seats in ( TDP 15+ BJP 2) 17 +1 =18 ,,, YSR Congress ( YuvajanaSramikha Raithu party) emerged victorious in 67 assemblyconstituencies and MP Searts in 8-1=7. Total 25 MP seats in AndhraPradesh .

YSRCP, suffered asetback in Visakhapatnam as its honorary president Y.S.Vijayamma lost the election. Vijayamma, who is mother ofparty chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, was defeated by over90,000 votes by K. Haribabu of BJP.
